What is the IPAS Indonesia Foundation?

The IPAS Indonesia Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) legally established and registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. The IPAS Indonesia Foundation strives to achieve Reproductive Justice in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations.

What is Reproductive Justice?

There are three main principles that the IPAS Indonesia Foundation strives for in achieving Reproductive Justice:

  • The right to have children and to decide how to give birth.
  • The right not to have children, including access to options for ending or preventing pregnancy with dignity and in accordance with applicable law.
  • The right to raise children in a safe environment free from violence and oppression.

Why does the IPAS Indonesia Foundation focus on achieving Reproductive Justice?

We believe Indonesia is moving towards promoting Reproductive Justice. However, studies conducted by the IPAS Indonesia Foundation with several partners indicate that legal certainty, access to services, and public awareness of reproductive health still need to be improved to achieve Reproductive Justice.

Furthermore, there is still stigma for women who decide to terminate their pregnancies, even if the procedure is performed safely and in accordance with regulations. This situation is exacerbated by gender inequality and other social injustices that significantly affect the fulfillment of reproductive rights for women and adolescent girls. The absence of ideal conditions is what drives the IPAS Indonesia Foundation to advocate for Reproductive Justice.

What are the main areas of work for the IPAS Indonesia Foundation in advocating for Reproductive Justice?

We focus on women (aged 25-60) and adolescent girls (aged 19-24), especially in the areas of:

  • Gender equality
  • Promotion of evidence-based policies
  • Stigma surrounding miscarriage
  • Post-miscarriage care services
  • Contraception
  • Research
  • Climate justice

What is the IPAS Indonesia Foundation's stance regarding pregnancy termination?

The IPAS Indonesia Foundation believes that pregnancy termination due to medical indications, rape, or other sexual violence, in accordance with statutory regulations, is part of Reproductive Justice. However, such pregnancy terminations must be performed safely, by experts, and in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations.

Does the IPAS Indonesia Foundation provide reproductive health services?

The IPAS Indonesia Foundation does not provide reproductive health services such as contraception and so forth. Our focus is to collaborate with healthcare professionals, public health facilities, and relevant stakeholders to achieve Reproductive Justice by providing technical support and capacity building.

Is the IPAS Indonesia Foundation affiliated with Ipas Global?

Operationally and in carrying out projects to achieve Reproductive Justice, the IPAS Indonesia Foundation operates independently in accordance with Indonesian Foundation Law. However, the IPAS Indonesia Foundation is part of the Ipas Impact Network, a network of Ipas organizations spread across five continents that share the same commitment and spirit in achieving Reproductive Justice. Although this network does not have legal force or is merely a mutual agreement, it is crucial as a platform for sharing strategies in advocating for Reproductive Justice.

Where does the IPAS Indonesia Foundation's funding come from?

We recognize that advocating for Reproductive Justice requires substantial resources, including financial ones. In obtaining funding, the IPAS Indonesia Foundation adheres to the applicable regulations and laws in Indonesia.
