The primary focus of this commitment is on Family Planning (FP) and Post-Abortion Care (PAC) services for women and adolescent girls.

The commitment was signed on October 24, 2025, in Niki-, South Central Timor, during the Cadre Jamboree event of the TAKENUSA project (Joint Determination for Women’s Health in Nusa Tenggara). This event was attended by 100 cadres from four villages in TTS Regency, supported by the partner organization CIS Timor Indonesia Foundation.

This commitment is considered highly important given the reproductive health conditions in TTS, particularly the high maternal and infant mortality rates. The TTS Regency Health Office recorded 19 cases of maternal deaths in 2024. For this year, as of October 2025, 13 cases have already been recorded.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://ipasindonesiad.wpenginepowered.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/DSC07292-1024×683-1.jpg” title_text=”DSC07292-1024×683″ _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

“Meanwhile, infant mortality has indeed decreased from 82 infants in 2023, then 73 infants in 2024, and now (October 2025) 66 infants,” stated the Head of the TTS Regency Health Office, Dr. R.A Karolina Tahun.

Meanwhile, the fertility rate in TTS remains stagnant. The fertility rate only decreased from 3.0 in 2022 to 2.88 in 2024, indicating that many women are still giving birth to more than two children.

From a family planning perspective, there is still an unmet need for contraception, which potentially leads to unplanned pregnancies.

“Earlier, I illustrated that our Women of Childbearing Age (PUS) tend to choose non-Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (non-LARC) more than Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC),” said the Head of the Population Control and Family Planning (P2KB) Office, Drg. Matilda Kase, M.Kes.

Considering these two aspects—the high maternal and infant mortality rates and the low fulfillment of family planning needs—a commitment from all parties is required to strengthen reproductive health services that are responsive to the needs of women and adolescent girls in South Central Timor Regency.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://ipasindonesiad.wpenginepowered.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-08-at-13.46.51_745f7d82-1024×768-1.jpg” alt=”This commitment was also signed separately by the Regent of TTS Regency on November 6, 2025, at his office. ” title_text=”WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-08-at-13.46.51_745f7d82-1024×768″ _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

Haris Oematan, Director of the CIS Timor Indonesia Foundation, stated that this joint commitment is one of the keys to the sustainability of the TAKENUSA project in South Central Timor.

“Therefore, it is very important for all parties to support what has been done in this project.
