This was conveyed by Purwanti, Head of the Surakarta City Agency for Women&#8217;s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (P3AP2KB), during a talk show commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (HAKTP), <strong>EmpowerHer: Raising Hidden Voices, Fighting Violence<\/strong>, held at Surakarta City Hall on November 28, 2023.  <\/p>\n<p>This discussion aims to address the implementation of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS) in Surakarta City. This event is a collaboration between the Surakarta City Government, specifically the DP3AP2KB, SPEK-HAM Surakarta, and the Initiative for Access to Health Change Foundation (IPAS) Indonesia, supported by the Government of Canada. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In her remarks, Purwanti emphasized that the government has an obligation to oversee the implementation of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning TPKS so that victims receive services and rights in accordance with the mandate of the said Law. According to her, this oversight requires cooperation from the government itself, the media, activists, and all levels of society. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in 2023, we invite all stakeholders to unite in an effort to break the chain of violence against women in Indonesia, especially in Surakarta City,\u201d Purwanti affirmed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She added that this 16 Days of Activism commemoration event aligns with the Surakarta City Government&#8217;s goal to reduce the rate of gender-based violence. She noted that in 2022, there were 104 incidents of violence against women and children spread across five districts in Surakarta City. This year, the Surakarta City Government also targets a joint commitment to realize women-friendly urban villages.  &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Briefly, Purwanti also mentioned the Surakarta City Government&#8217;s initiatives to oversee the implementation of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning TPKS in Surakarta City. These include awareness campaigns for sexual violence prevention in universities, the development of a pocket guide for sexual violence prevention in universities, and awareness campaigns for domestic violence prevention through mass media. In addition, the government also implements programs such as trauma healing and capacity building for victims and survivors of violence.  &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this activity, we hope for a joint commitment from institutions, the community, media, and universities to collectively realize a Surakarta City free from violence against women,\u201d she concluded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This commitment is expected to be an initial step to create innovation or modeling for the implementation of the TPKS Law in Surakarta City, explained Dr. Marcia Soumokil, Executive Director of IPAS Indonesia Foundation. Through funding from the Government of Canada, IPAS Indonesia Foundation and local partners will collaborate through the ARUNIKA project to promote this modeling over the next 3.5 years in Surakarta City. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that cooperation with all stakeholders, government, and civil society can create an integrated service model for victims and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning TPKS,\u201d Marcia stated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Practices or models for reducing violence rates and victim handling based on local contexts have long been a special focus for the Government of Canada. Therefore, the Government of Canada is very enthusiastic about encouraging innovative and integrated services in handling cases of violence in Surakarta City.
