At that time, she was also entrusted with the role of Head of Village Planning Affairs. During her three years as Head of the Task Force, she encountered and experienced many things. One such experience involved handling domestic violence (KDRT) cases where victims repeatedly withdrew their reports.

Ms. Ayu emphasized that there has been no significant increase in violence against women in her village during her tenure with the Task Force. “Perhaps the community’s awareness has grown, and they understand that violence is unacceptable. This is because we, from the Task Force, KPKP-ST, the local government, and with the support of IPAS Indonesia, have conducted training and socialization programs,” she stated.

Nevertheless, she acknowledged that domestic violence (KDRT) frequently occurs in her village. In fact, she once handled a KDRT case where the victim repeatedly filed and withdrew her report up to three times. This case left a deep impression on her.

“The first KDRT report, we provided assistance and mediated with the family. After that, we drafted an agreement letter. Before long, the couple reconciled. A few months later, the same situation recurred. We took action. They reconciled again. Not long after, it happened again for the third time,” Ms. Ayu recalled.

Eventually, the victim directly reported the case to the police. Ms. Ayu only became aware of this after being contacted by the Sigi Police to serve as a witness in the case. Unfortunately, she could no longer communicate with the victim as her phone number was no longer active.

“I heard that, before reporting [to the police], the victim stated she was leaving town,” Ms. Ayu added.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” alt=”Furthermore, Ms. Ayu faced other challenges during her time with the Task Force.” title_text=”IMG_2951″ src=”https://ipasindonesiad.wpenginepowered.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/IMG_2951-1-scaled-1.jpg” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

Not only that, Mrs. Ayu also faced other challenges while serving in the Task Force. Among these was the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020. As a result of the pandemic, the budget for the Task Force was no longer a priority. The village officials indeed prioritized pandemic management.

She stated, “In early 2020, the village allocated Rp 5 million. However, in the subsequent year, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the central government’s allocation of village funds to various sectors, it became quite challenging to increase the task force’s allocation.”

She hopes that for 2024, the Task Force can receive additional funding now that the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. She added that for 2024, her team will focus on conducting outreach by distributing brochures and other communication materials.

“In Kotapulu itself, socialization efforts are still limited to the village office. We distribute invitations. Most recently, together with KPKP<ins>–</ins>ST, we visited schools. It is still limited to that. If IPAS Indonesia continues to support us, we will extend our efforts to other groups,” she concluded.

KPKP-ST, with support from the IPAS Indonesia Foundation, conducted 80 socialization sessions related to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in 20 villages across Sigi and Donggala Regencies between August and December 2022. A total of 1,608 residents participated in these activities. KPKP<ins>–</ins>ST also organized workshops to encourage innovation among village officials in formulating policies and securing funding to address issues of gender-based and sexual violence.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Ms. Ayu Mentari was appointed as the Head of the Child and Women Protection Task Force (Satgas PPA) for Kotapulu Village, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, in 2020.
