However, its discourse often remains at a normative level, focusing on the fulfillment of SRHR for every individual and frequently associating it with morality issues. These moral considerations present a significant obstacle for SRHR, as the topic is still widely considered taboo.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates (MMR) in Southeast Asia, at 305 deaths per 100,000 live births. The three leading causes of maternal death in Indonesia are hemorrhage (during pregnancy, childbirth, and\/or postpartum), eclampsia, and infection. These three causes are, in fact, preventable.  <\/p>\n<p>One factor contributing to the risk of maternal mortality is access to quality healthcare services, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services.<\/p>\n<p>To contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality rates (MMR) and the fulfillment of women&#8217;s Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), the IPAS Indonesia Foundation implemented the Integrated Women&#8217;s Reproductive Health Improvement (PEKERTi) program from 2017-2020.<\/p>\n<p>The program focused on strengthening the health system for Post-Abortion Care (PAC) programs, and on community-level education and promotion of SRHR. The aim was to reduce maternal deaths related to reproductive health issues, unintended pregnancies (UP), and hemorrhage due to miscarriage.<\/p>\n<p>For 3 years, PEKERTi was implemented in Yogyakarta City, Klaten Regency, and Ponorogo Regency, in collaboration with various partners, including national and local governments, healthcare facilities, professional organizations, academics, and local community organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Some achievements realized during 3 years of collaboration with partners include: the development of National Guidelines for Comprehensive PAC Services; various activities such as training and workshops for doctors, midwives, community groups, media workers, etc.; the creation of PAC Service Modules for use by healthcare facilities throughout Indonesia; and the provision of Comprehensive PAC services in 7 Hospitals and 6 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas).<\/p>\n<p>Although this program concluded in December 2020, the IPAS Indonesia Foundation hopes that the initiatives undertaken will be continued by relevant parties and expanded to other regions in Indonesia.
